I think, and others may correct me if I am wrong, but I think that this is
related to
the GPS itself, not radar. I notice this, especially under cover. I would think
a more
accurate chipset and antenna would lead to more accurate results. That said, I
am
pretty amazed at how well it does even under fairly dense cover. Also, I have
found if
you stop moving for a minute it seems to sort itself out some.

My guess is, this is an issue with the hardware compass. I have myself
experienced the
compass becoming uncalibrated and severely confused. Pointing the device in
different
directions provide a sanity check that the compass is in order.
One application advised: "Trace the figure of 8 with the phone for a while"
