Suggestion for a more personable issue template #43136

The current issue template is kinda emblematic of the worst caricatures of the priggish i-am-very-smart programmer, i.e.

Please note we will close your issue without comment if you delete, do not read or do not fill out the issue checklist below and provide ALL the requested information. If you repeatedly fail to use the issue template, we will block you from ever submitting issues to Homebrew again.

Yeah... 🤮 this is not the way to act. And it's ignorant of the fact that real-world issues regularly fall outside of this narrowly defined criteria, which helps neither users nor maintainers.

Here is a small suggestion I found via https://github.com/mozilla/multi-account-containers that you can put atop your template (maybe ditching that garbage above) that will make the world an objectively better place:

Feel free to ignore this Issue template if you just want to ask or suggest something. If you experience an Issue then please provide all asked information.

Very easy. The issue template then goes on to provide the necessary steps so that both user and developer may benefit from the report, but without the toxic attitude, and respecting the user's judgement and agency. This tiny change can prevent off-colouring your whole channel of communication from the get-go.

Whoops, it looks like you created an issue without filling out the checklist and providing all the needed information from one of the issue templates: https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew-core/issues/new/choose

As we need all this information to help you we're closing this issue. If you add the necessary information to this issue (don't create a new or duplicate issue, please) and comment to let us know, a Homebrew maintainer will check it out when they get the chance. If it's deemed to be a valid issue then this issue may be reopened.

Sorry!
