These two files sim_tests.py and test_sim.py contain almost the same tests (there are some differences). I believe that I created test_sim.py as a version that follows the Python style guide better, and the version that can be discovered by py.test. I think we can remove sim_tests.py after checking that we don't lose anything from sim_tests.py.
