Media upload turns PNGs into JPEGs #7

When uploading a PNG image via the media upload page, it gets converted into a JPEG. This is bad, especially for transparent PNGs: see http://hotink.theorem.ca/system/gateway/images/000/008/857/map_system_default.jpg for a particularly egregious example.

Note: this is only how it appears in the backend. I don't have access to Publisher on my paper's account, so I'm not sure how things display on a live Hot Ink site.

This looks to still be happening. Is there a reason why we're converting uploads to JPEG?
