Please post reports of Oculus Rift + OVRdrop compatibility here.

Elite Dangerous with Rift does not work with OVRdrop out of the box. Here is a link to a step-by-step guide on how to fix it.

Subnautica with Rift does not work with OVRdrop out of the box. Here is a link to a step-by-step guide on how to fix it.

Sorry, non-compatibility issue here.

Using DCS with Rift CV1. If I put it in Windows7 mode it WILL NOT pick up the VR headset, at all...

Any ideas?

Hotrian commented 7 years ago

Do you have DCS on Steam or the standalone? I'm guessing maybe the standalone won't boot up through SteamVR unless it detects a SteamVR HMD?

I got it working in compatibility mode but .... (and this was the showstopper for me) .... the recenter view feature did not work anymore! If i sit infront of my desk i had to look right to look straight ahead in E:D. Unfortunately I did not find any solution for this problem...

And it felt like if the performance is weaker :(

Hotrian commented 7 years ago

Strange :(. I did not experience that in my testing. Did you check to make sure the 'recenter VR view' hotkey in ED was still bound? Did you try both ED's recenter Hotkey and also the Steam recenter method? (I believe there is one)

Performance may feel a tad slower because you lose ASW/AST for Reprojection. ED may also unfortunately not be as optimized for SteamVR.

I did not use the recenter feature in ED (didn't even know there is one) i used the feature from Oculus Software... But with using the ingame feature i'll give it another try ;)

Edit: Had a quick look through the Settings menu in E:D but i did not find the recenter option (maybe because game is in german)... do you have a hint for me?

I did not use the recenter feature in ED i used the feature from Oculus Software

So, the recenter button in Oculus won't recenter you in SteamVR, and it doesn't affect OVRdrop at all. There should be a SteamVR "recenter" button (though I forget exactly where it is right now), and most games let you recenter SteamVR as well.

Had a quick look through the Settings menu in E:D but i did not find the recenter option

I believe it's mapped to F11 or F12 by default.

I found it in the setting from the main menu when you boot up ED under Options > Controls > Miscellaneous > Reset HMD Orientation. Mine is mapped to F12 which I think is the default.

Here is a picture of the option in the English menu - I don't know what it will say in German, but I'm guessing the menu will look the same aside from that, so you might be able to figure out which one it is based off this picture.

Edit: Then for OVRdrop, you currently have two options.

  1. OVRdrop can be static in your world, so that recentering your VR space doesn't move OVRdrop
  2. OVRdrop can be attached to your world, so that recentering your VR space DOES move OVRdrop.

There's an option in OVRdrop's Additional Settings menu, called Ignore Tracking Space - With Ignore Tracking Space enabled, OVRdrop's Overlay will be attached to the actual world instead of the VR space, so when you recenter OVRdrop doesn't move at all. Just disable this option if you prefer OVRdrop to be attached to your VR space, regardless of orientation (this is typically desired with ED, since you can recenter your ship and OVRdrop will move along with it automatically)
