“In competitive Olympic Weightlifting, there are two lifts contested – the Snatch, and the Clean & Jerk. Each athlete has three attempts at each lift, and the sum of their best Snatch and best Clean & Jerk is their Total. The goal is to execute a proper lift with as heavy a weight as possible. If there is a tie, the lifter with the lightest bodyweight is given a higher ranking.” – BC Weightlifting Association "https://www.bcweightlifting.ca/about-weightlifting/" *I guess we should link them?

The Snatch is the first of the two contested lifts performed in Olympic Weightlifting competitions. This exercise is executed by lifting the barbell overhead in one fluid motion.

The Clean & Jerk is the second contested lift performed in Olympic Weightlifting competitions. It consists of two parts, the Clean, which brings the barbell up to the shoulders from the floor, and the Jerk, where the barbell is secured overhead from the shoulders.
