Link person under the `People` tab to go to external website instead of the site's own person page #1384

Feature Request

I'm sorry if this has already been asked or is already possible, but I couldn't figure it out from the documentation or the previous Issues in this repository. If this is already possible, please let me know. It's a great project, thanks for your work!

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. I can't find a way to add a person to the People page, without creating a separate page for them.

Describe the solution you'd like Can there be an option under the People page to link to an external website, instead of creating a person page for them?

Describe alternatives you've considered I've considered just having the links in the Person's Bio, but that is not ideal

EDIT: To clarify, I mean to link to an external page like the project section has. Is that a possible for the People page? Or for that matter, even the Publications page (that link with citation view takes you to an internal page).

Closing as this is a duplicate.

Academic comes with its own user profile system. A user's website can be linked in their social icons (choosing the link icon) or in their bio.

To use an alternative system, the relevant files can be overrided using Hugo's template override principle.

Hello! 😄 Thank you very much for the great work you do. I am writing to you because I have the same request as @orionw , because I would like that only for some members of our team, the link with their names redirects to their external pages and not to an internal page in Hugo. The reason is that they are collaborators and they already have their own developed sites.

I don't know much about HTML so I would appreciate it if you could tell me where I can edit that if the only solution is to edit the partials. Kindest Regards
