Enable author with external link

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. For personal web pages, I would like to be able to directly add external links to the partner's personal / organizational homepage instead of creating a separate page, but ‘author’ seems to be different from 'project ’and cannot use the external_link feature.

Describe the solution you'd like Adding a general external_link feature to all pages

I saw this feature in the Pull requests, but it's still not officially merged into hugo-academic. I just wonder when we can use this external_link feature. Thank you
