On the ESR time trend charts (on the Quality of Life details pages), the datapoints at the indicator level are shown using a mix of open and closed dots, depending on whether the data point is from that year (closed) or from a previous year (open).
We should add a key explaining. Related to this, Thalia and Susan also propose to add an FAQ in the right hand panel to explain what happens if there is no underlying indicator data for a particular year.
