I had this issue and found a way to get round it, for anyone having this issue
try adding sudo to beginning of the commmand;

 sudo wash -i mon0

this worked for me, and should resolve any issues of failing to open interface
when using wash

it could have something to do with my connection. Im connecting via etho and
not wlan0 running back-track in a virtual environment. Is there any way or need
to get an ethernet interface working in virtualization?

Turning on the wifi antenna worked for me, too. I also had to enter "airmon-ng
stop mon0" and "airmon-ng start wlan0" again to make it work. Reboot after
enabling the antenna should work too.
