Description of workflows #70

Closed lanthaler closed 5 years ago

Sometimes, it is necessary to execute a complete workflow in order to achieve a certain goal because the server and the client need to collaborate. It would be interesting to evaluate whether this is something that should be included into the Hydra Core vocabulary.

This was triggered by a question from Kev Kirkland (see http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-hydra/2014Sep/0039.html)

I like BPMN but fear that using this for Hydra might be overkill.

dschulten commented 10 years ago

Kev never mentions BPMN. If you look at the classic article http://www.infoq.com/articles/webber-rest-workflow, it is one of the basics of a ReST service to use a flow to guide the client to a goal.

The question is what should be added to hydra to support that. Markus, do you have something particular in mind?

akuckartz commented 10 years ago

@dschulten A misunderstanding. I only intended to state that I like BPMN, not that Kev Kirkland does so!

dschulten commented 10 years ago

@akuckartz I understood you wanted to reject special support for flows built with hydra responses because that would be as complex as BPMN and should not be in Hydra. Sorry :)

This feels to be a little out of hydra scope. Also our further work might bring some generic features that might enable implementers to provide such a behavior - let's close it.
