Hello, I just saw a blog post showing off the wip gtk4/libadwaita updates and it looks great! I didn't know if you needed a new icons that more closely follow new gnome design to go with it.

CodedOre commented 2 years ago

We already discussed to update the icon, and I would say this is a great one to succeed the current one!

Just as a note: The 2.0 development version is on a separate repository, so if this get's approved by @IBBoard you could also push it there as well.

@micahilbery - Thanks for the proposed new icon. We've had comments about the existing icon before, but no-one ever offered anything to replace it. And I just adapted the old icon into something more Tango-esque and crow-like.

I'm glad you've made something that has a reasonably distinct silhouette. Too many Gnome-centric apps seem to have been going for "flat square thing" or "flat circular thing" of late.

Are the colours based on the Gnome colour scheme? I like the purple and it fits, but the blue just seems a bit too bright. It might also be because it's now a (more realistic) single colour eyeball with a very bright highlight.

@CodedOre - we've also got to consider the discussion about potentially rebranding NewCaw, since it's cross-platform.

@IBBoard I did use the Gnome Palette for some of it and colors loosely based on the palette for the others. The blue from the eye was indeed from the Gnome palette but I have now chosen a darker shade and made the highlight less harsh.

CodedOre commented 2 years ago

I have to say that I'm not so keen on the more darker eye color. It has not enough contrast in my opinion.

Yeah, I think you're right. I'm not going to claim to be an artist and know exactly what's right, but I think that it needs something in between. Not so bright that it looks like a glossy marble, but not so dark that it loses the contrast 🙂
