Pre-training assessment helpful in fine-tuning training objectives and setting up for training evaluation/knowledge check
Sending a "getting started" video for participants to watch prior to the training
Highly recommended pre-work (rather easy) to get comfortable clicking in Tableau
Detailed handouts (step by step) were helpful to keep participants on track and following trainer steps
Best practices list developed for items that did not have space in the agenda
Having sufficient # facilitators who understand the content and structure of the training
Establish expectations of what the training will and will not cover from the start
Identify which questions need to be tabled --> "Parking Lot"
Establish understanding that not one way is the "right way" but there are multiple ways of doing something and just showing one way of how to do XYZ (ex. Subset and reshaping datasets)
Set up resource list of best practices, training materials along the way as you develop training content (you won't be able to get to everything, especially advanced topics)
Community of practice and where to get help along the way after the training - whether it's a Slack channel, email listserv, etc.
Addressing participants who prefer to attend virtually - how will you support this during the training?
Set the expectation especially for an interactive training that is best served in person.
Identify facilitators early on
Identify content developers & presenters early
Test out code/content on at least 2 other computers to ensure compatibility
Consider doing a run-through of the agenda and code from start to finish
Organize office hours before the training to review any pre-work, answer any questions about software set up, etc. helpful in getting over those humps before training day
Leave time for evaluation before the close of training otherwise participants won't do it.
