What should the menu user interface be? An alternative to a traditional set of menu items is a ribbon (or tabbed toolbar) e.g. Microsoft Office 2007 and later. This certainly looks more "modern" but how will this change the user experience. It would be good to base this big decision on some (design) principles and possibly data from users, of R-Instat or other software.
