Items arising from EUMETSAT meeting #5568

EUMETSAT sort of hosted a meeting for developments for Met services in ACP (Africa, Caribbean, Pacific) countries. This included WMO, ECMWF and EUMETSAT on the providers side and representatives from Regional Climate Centres on the demand side.

I gather each regional centre is completing a 4 year capacity-building strategy. This will involve training staff in these centres, who then become resource persons in passing on the information to upgrade the NMSs.

I was there, partly with a training hat, and also because of R-Instat. The aspect of particular discussion (here) was the use of the EUMETSAT and ECMWF data by ACP users.

One aspect of the capacity-building in this area is the fact that there have been numerous validation reports using satellite etc data and European station data. Clearly there should be equivalent reports for the ACP countries. Making it easy to produce these reports is well within R-Instat's grasp and potentially important. We still have a few days left from the current grant, becaise the meetings were not as long as we anticipated. And a new contract is in the pipeline.

@rdstern thats some piece of good news. I am aware there are some facilities for this in R-Instat, are there any other features that you would like added for better handling of this kind of data?

@rdstern any particular features or issues that should be linked to this issue?
