Melissa Garber "If I was the Nuclear Option" Using data from the last GOP and DNC debates, I made a data visualization of the number of times words related to Nixon's Nuclear Option (leading up to the word nuclear) are said by both parties in the debate.

Hi Melissa,

Thanks for submitting this. I look forward to your other two sketches. First of all, I love the concept of this visualization! I wonder if there's any way you can find MORE data from other debates, as well as display a simple call to action click somewhere in the visualization so users know to click. See your sketch running in the live book here: http://idmnyu.github.io/DM-GY6063-sp16-finalprojects/#

"If I Were Great Again"

I recreated Donald Trump's infamous "Make America Great Again" hat using adjectives from his speech where he announced his candidacy for president to fill in alternatives for the word "great." I photoshopped a hat onto an image of him and used different images of his mouth to mimic him speaking as you click and change the slogan on his hat.

Re: If I were Great Again, please make sure the image is centered in the canvas and the background blue is constant in the window. Other than that, looking great!

I'm not sure how but my "If I Were Great Again" disappeared from Thimble so I had load it again on there and now there is a new link from the one originally in the book: https://thimbleprojects.org/jargonbingo/63696/

I made the background entirely blue, but I came across an issue with centering the rotated text onto the image, so I left everything aligned to the left.

My third sketch is: If I (Donald Trump) Was a Poet"

Using the haiku generator interactive example from class, I created a haiku generator using Trump's presidential announcement speech text.

I also updated "If I was the Nuclear Option" and used data from every GOP and DNC debate this election cycle.

Updated text for sketches

Sketch 1: "If I was the Nuclear Option" Using data from all of the GOP and DNC debates this primary cycle, I made a data visualization of the number of times words related to Nixon's Nuclear Option (leading up to the word nuclear) are said by both parties in the debate.

Sketch 2: "If I Were Great Again" I recreated Donald Trump's infamous "Make America Great Again" hat using adjectives from his June 16, 2015 speech where he announced his candidacy for president to fill in alternatives for the word "great." I photoshopped a hat onto an image of him and used different images of his mouth to mimic him speaking as you click and change the slogan on his hat.
