Describe the feature [Required]

Since the firmware and HDMI update, if I do a fresh install of the drivers (not the update path), my TV (Sony Bravia 32-EX300 - Yes, I know it's old), will overscan to about 10% over the display area.

The way I workaround this issue is that I download Intel Graphics Command Centre and go to "Scale". The card defaults to "Maintain Display Setting", but if I change it to "Maintain Aspect Ratio", it returns to normal and everything is great.

Additional information that I found that may or may not be relevant and/or useful is under "Maintain Display Setting", the refresh rate is an even 60hz. If I change it to "Maintain Aspect Ratio", the refresh rate changes to 60.02hz. I did try to change it back to an even 60hz in Windows, and the overscan returns - switching it to 60.02 is what makes it work.

So with that, I was wondering if Scale can be added to Arc Control as I'd like to consolidate it to just one application to make adjustments. I get that it won't be a high priority (or even moderate) task, As long as I update, the setting does stay. More or less, it would just be nice.

Thank you for taking the time to read this! Mario

Update: 18 Sep 2023 - I think the HDMI firmware is still a little wonky. Not like before. Compared to before the firmware update, it wasn't great, but it's getting better (at least for me). The overscans are a lot less than before. I think I only encountered an overscan wake from sleep once since the update.

The new thing that has come up, is at times the HDMI Audio will not load. In Device Manager, it will show up in Sound and Controllers in Device Manager. However, there needs to be two instances for the audio to engage. What has worked for me to make the second instance to appear is to disable the checkbox in the Power Management tab to let Windows decide when it can power it down.

Once I do that, HDMI Audio works.

Right now, I've gone back to using my CalDigit Active DP to HDMI adapter to test out things. Using the adapter, there is no overscan at the 60hz refresh rate as opposed to needing the refresh rate to be at 60.02hz when using the HDMI port on the card.

I'll be checking if the HDMI Audio works better under the adapter over time. I will check back in about 1-2 weeks to make sure it's not a fluke. If everything works out correctly on both issues - I'll close the ticket and state that my workaround is returning back to the adapter.

@LancerDawg75 Sorry for taking so long to get to this one. Thanks for the scaling feedback. I'll pass this along to the team. :)

As for the HDMI audio issue, are you continuing to see the problem? Let us know!

@IGCIT Please close since we have not seen any updates on this one

Sorry it has been awhile. It still persists if I am connected to my HDTV via HDMI. In order to prevent overscan, I have to download Intel Graphics Command Center, set to "Maintain Display Ratio" which sets the refresh rate to 60.02.

It still persists with the most recent driver and firmware update so (once again) it has to do with the Realtek PCON.

Alternatively, if I use my CalDigit Active DP to HDMI adapter, I don't have this issue overscan doesn't occur and the refresh rate is an even 60hz.

Thanks @LancerDawg75. That's just for the scaling issue, right? We've got that feature request passed along already :) What about the audio issue?

LancerDawg75 commented 10 months ago

Audio issue seems to have been resolved. I don't need to turn off/uncheck Power Management in Device Manager since 4900.

Intel really needs to rethink the PCON route before releasing Battlemage. HDMI has been hit or miss with stability even with all the firmware updates.

And definitely the color depth and format really needs to be sorted out because like I have argued before in the last few posts that I have made, competitors have offered the ability for a decade so us HDTV users have access to HDMI Deep Color.
