Description and steps to reproduce [Required]

Essentially, the issue manifests while running around the Section 7 slums area in Chapter 3 (It also happens in the same area in the Yuffie DLC). It might happen in other areas too, I only tried it here.

From the location in the save file, walk out the door, down the stairs and after the cutscene, run around the area. While running, the game will occasionally stutter. It seems to correlate to the VRAM utilization -- happening frequently when the VRAM is at the limit (or even oversubscribed? sometimes I see the Arc overlay going above 8192MB).

Normally I'd chalk this up as being due running it at settings that are too high, but my old 5700 XT also had 8GB VRAM and didn't exhibit the stuttering effect from what I can tell, so it may be possible to fix in the drivers. Unfortunately I no longer have that card to test them side by side.

Hi @mihir-io

Thank you for reporting this to us. I was able to replicate the issue with the settings/save game files that you provided, and the stuttering is present.

I tried combinations of settings (Texture Resolution and Shadow Resolution to either High and Low - but not both at High) and was not able to get any stuttering and plays out smoothly. Can you also check on your end and let me know?

Also, I will further work on this and send updates here.

Thank you very much!

Adrian

Hi @Adrian-Intel , I tested it out and can confirm what you said on my end -- having either texture or shadow resolution to 'low' seems to mitigate the issue, at least in that area. I haven't played much else of the game on Arc to see if any other areas are affected.

@mihir-io I already filed a case with the debug team (15016110053) and for any updates, I'll share here. Thank you very much!

@mihir-io

Please install the latest Arc driver 101.5590 from this link - https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/785597/intel-arc-iris-xe-graphics-windows.html

Run the game and please let us know of your results.

Thank you very much! Adrian

@Adrian-Intel Definitely a huge improvement in this latest driver!

Running the game in both DX12 (the default) mode as well as DX11 with the -dx11 flag I saw the issue is much less common now. In DX12 mode, I didn't see any of the long pauses, just some minor hitching -- might just be a hardware limitation. In DX11 mode, I saw it do long pauses about twice in the maybe 4 minutes I spent running around the map. Before, the issue was the same for DX11 and DX12, where it would have long pauses every few seconds.
