Intel System Support Utility report

Intel® Arc(TM) Graphics - Thursday, 27 June 2024.txt

Description and steps to reproduce [Required]

When I connect external display to my laptop using the HDMI port, I can choose between full and limited quantization range. But when using USB-C / thunderbolt, I lose these settings. By using test sites like this, I can confirm that the actual output range is limited.

It's a problem for (1) people who have more than 1 external monitors (2) people who wants a 1 cable solution (plug keyboard mouse monitor all into docking station, then plug docking station to laptop, also doing power delivery)

Besides reporting the issue, I'd also like to know if this will be fixed in Lunar Lake, it'll affect my plans regarding buying laptops.

Hey @ZYinMD thanks for this report regarding Intel Graphics Command Center.

Can you send the specifications of your docking station? I'll check if we have one as the MTL we have in the lab only has HDMI output and I'd have to acquire a similar one to reproduce this behavior with DP. Also, are you using USB-C to DP cable? If you can share the specs of cables and the whole setup (Display brands, etc) that'd help me too :)

Keep me posted

Hi @Karen-Intel You don't need a docking station to reproduce it. Just use a cable that can connect from your laptop to your monitor. On your laptop side, the output port can be USB3.2, USB4, Thunderbolt, DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, etc, doesn't matter which, just don't use HDMI. On your monitor side, it doesn't matter what input port you use.

For me personally, I used a USB-C to HDMI cable. This one. It should be a very common setup, because all Core Ultra laptops should have video output via USB-C, and all monitors should have HDMI input.

I changed "DisplayPort" in my original post to "USB-C" to avoid confusion, although technically DisplayPort is more correct because it's what powers the video signal in the USB-C port, or so I think.

@ZYinMD okay thanks for the clarification, that makes more sense now. I'll do some testing with the tool and I'll find out if what we're seeing is expected behavior or not. I might get a reply from 3 to 7 business days, perhaps a bit more.

Appreciate your patience in advance

Karen

Thanks @Karen-Intel , sounds like you may pass the question to the devs and get a reply in 3-7 business days, in that case, don't forget to help me ask "if this is expected behavior, will it likely improve in Lunar Lake", thanks! Counting on you!
