In addition to encounter data, what other info can we find?

Diagnosis

• most responsible: the one that accounts for the largest portion of stay
• Discharge Abstract Database (DAD)
• every acute care encounter has a DAD
• every time you are admitted to a hospital, you get a DAD
• but not in residential care, or any other secondary/tertiary services
• coded using ICD-10 (international classification code)
• length of stay (which is not a proxy for quality of services)
• ALC status: alternative level of care (e.g. some facility after discharge)
• DAD contains procedures (coded)

Labs

• community labs
• Island Health labs

PharmaNet

• BC database, not national
• makes BC distinctive

NACRS

• coding the reason for being in ED

RAI

• Resident Assessment Instrument

• activities of daily living

MRR
