The Patient Identifier Cross-reference for Mobile (PIXm) Profile provides RESTful transactions for mobile and lightweight browser-based applications to create, update and delete patient records in a Patient Identifier Cross-reference Manager and to query the Patient Identifier Cross-reference Manager for a patient’s cross-domain identifiers.
Issue
If the PIXm Manager would cache the information receveid from the Patient Identity Feed for later processing, it might provide outdated information to the PIXm Consumer via the PIXm Query response. We should state that the PIXm Manager shall immediately update its cross-reference logic based on the information from the feed.
Proposed Change
Replace: "Once the Patient Identifier Cross-reference Manager has completed its cross-referencing function, it shall make the newly cross-referenced identifiers available to PIX queries."
by: "The Patient Identifier Cross-reference Manager shall immediately update its cross-referencing information before making cross-referenced identifiers available to new PIX queries."
Priority:
Medium: Significant issue or clarification. Requires discussion, but should not lead to long debate.
immediately can be misunderstood since the cross-referencing process can take a long time, see sentence above (The cross-referencing process (algorithm, human decisions, etc.) is performed within the Patient Identifier Cross-reference Manager, but its specification is beyond the scope of IHE.)
the second part of the sentence "before making cross-referenced identifiers available to new PIX queries." indicates that cross-reference identifiers could only be returned when there is no cross-referencing in progress, but this seems not be possible. Only after the outcome of the cross-referencing process it is known which ross-referenced identifiers are newly available
After discussion with my team, I will remove this issue as there was no valid use case for it. I apologize for the time lost, this should not have been here in the first place.
