IIIF Discovery call 2017-07-26: agreed to be in scope
As the user of a search site who has discovered an IIIF resource and who does not want to open the details page, the option to access the manifest should be offered right on the search results page. This saves plenty of page-reloads on exploring the archive. Examples:
Description
As the user of a search site who has discovered an IIIF resource, I would like to open that resource in a viewer. I would like the required action on my part to be readily identifiable across sites - i.e., for sites to have a consistent UI pattern for accomplishing this.
Variation(s)
A site might offer multiple viewers (UV, Mirador, or Leaflet, OpenSeadragon, etc.) and need a UI affordance to allow the user to select the desired viewer.
Proposed Solutions
Suggest a UI pattern for this.
Additional Background
Currently sites with IIIF resources do not follow a consistent pattern. Some (YCBA, Getty) have linked the IIIF icon to a viewer. Digital Bodleian links the IIIF icon to the Manifest JSON and displays icons for Mirador and UV that link to the viewers.
