As a starting point for open source developement, one of the things you'd have to do is closely follow contribution guidelines of the projects you send a PR to

You're missing at least one thing - you should create a new branch and send a PR from that (dont send from master branch). PRs from master branch cause some problems for us so that's why we've mandated this rule.
