The following is the peer review of the project proposal by - Manas P Panse - @manasppanse
Describe the goal of the project.
The goal of the project is to analyze the number of objects launched into space from 1957 to 2023 by various entities. The project aims to identify trends over the years, identify the leading nations in space exploration based on just one variable: past launches, and investigate the participation of developing nations in space launch activities.
Describe the data used or collected.
The dataset used in this project is from the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs. It contains information on space launch events from 1957 to 2023, including the entity responsible for the launch, the entity code, and the number of objects launched each year. The dataset comprises 4 columns and 1175 rows.
Describe how the research question will be answered, e.g. what approaches / methods will be used.
The research questions will be answered through data visualization. The approach involves filtering the dataset to focus on key countries (United States, China, Russia, Japan, France, India, European Space Agency, Germany) and creating a map to show the number of objects launched each year by these entities. The analysis aims to reveal trends and changes in space launch activities over time. It also includes incorporating additional latitude and longitude data for each event in the project in order to plot this on the map.
Is there anything that is unclear from the proposal?
The proposal is generally clear, but the analysis plan for creating a map to display launches by country over time is not fully developed. The proposer mentions a need for additional datasets containing longitudes and latitudes, which suggests a gap in the methodology currently being used.
Provide constructive feedback on how the team might be able to improve their project.
a. Detailed Analysis Plan - Expand the analysis plan to include specific steps for integrating and plotting the data. This will provide a clearer roadmap for completing the project visualizations.
b. Plan of Attack - Include a Plan of Attack at the bottom of the document as outlined in the deliverables of the project. This will allow you to track your progress, and visualize a basic outline of what & how will you use different things & variables in the project.
What aspect of this project are you most interested in and would like to see highlighted in the presentation.
I am most interested in seeing the trends in space launches over the years and the comparison of contributions by different countries. Highlighting significant milestones or changes in the entities internal policies might contribute to the increase or decrease in their launches ? That's something I am interested in & looking forward to it.
Provide constructive feedback on any issues with file and/or code organization.
Documentation: Include more comments and documentation within the code to explain the purpose of each section and the transformations being applied to the data.
(Optional) Any further comments or feedback?
Overall, this is a well-conceived project with a clear goal and a solid foundation in data visualization. Addressing the points mentioned above might/will allow the proposer to enhance the project's robustness and presentation.
Thank you for your input - your comments were very helpful. I have updated the proposal to include a (i) detailed analysis plan and a (ii) plan of attach table of tasks.
