The following is the peer review of the Presentation proposal by Manas P Panse - @manasppanse
Content: Is the research question well designed and is the data being used relevant to the research question?
Yes. The research questions are well-designed, and as someone who loves drinking coffee, these questions did spark an interest for me. The data that was used is pertinent to these questions.
Content: Did the team use appropriate visualizations and did they interpret them accurately?
From my perspective, not all the plots were interpretable because there are so many things that a plot should have, that I thought are necessary for the correct interpretation, and those were missing. The bar plots did effectively illustrate the counts of categorical values, and Luis highlighted relevant areas, including potential misinterpretations due to small sample sizes.
Creativity and Critical Thought: Is the project carefully thought out? Are the limitations carefully considered? Does it appear that time and effort went into the planning and implementation of the project?
The project is well thought out, with limitations carefully considered. It is evident that significant time and effort were invested in the planning and implementation. Luis thoughtfully selected interesting data points from the dataset and adjusted the project direction when an original question could not be answered with the available data.
Slides: Are the slides well organized, readable, not full of text, featuring figures with legible labels, legends, etc.?
Some slides are full of text, which Luis in the presentation says that they're there in case there's not a presenter. But I encountered many issues regarding the plots, like aesthetic-wise. Plot titles, axis titles unclear, no caption. Unclear legends, like in D.E - 2, legend title is "favourite" and legend items are americano, and cold brew, etc. So my first understanding is, "Ok most favourite is Americano, and least favourite is at the bottom, which is Regular drip". But I see the plot and reg drip is 3rd most favourite, and americano is 7th. So most of the Data Exploration plots by themselves were not interpretable for me.
Visualization 1 : Plot title, axis title missing, axis labels could've been just a little bigger, because it was a little hard for me to read. The percent labels inside the bars could've also been bigger, along with choosing lighter colors for the bars, right now, the black text on blue and red bars was not the right approach.
Visualization 2 : This is the most overwhelming plot to read & interpret. There's just so much going on here, that I can't even make out what the information is trying to convey. Good work on lighter colors for bars, though. But again same things, like plot title, axis title missing, Common things as before. Okay, after being up close & personal with my laptop screen for a solid minute because the text was pixelated for me, I could make out, that most consumed coffee types are infact regular drip, pourover, and latte (not in order).
I had to watch the presentation multiple times to understand the plots. because of the aesthetics.
Professionalism: How well did the team present? Does the presentation appear to be well practiced? Are they reading off of a script? Did everyone get a chance to say something meaningful about the project?
The presentation was good, and it was well-practiced. Luis was not reading off of a script, because I noticed sometimes that he was taking a second to think about what his next words are going to be, and he was sounding nervous. And that happens when you're thinking faster than how fast you can speak. Yes, everyone got a chance to share meaningful insights about the project.
