Describe the goal of the project.
The goal of the project is to create an interactive Shiny app by using the World Happiness Report data, making users explore and understand the factors that contribute to happiness worldwide. By offering a dynamic visualization of data, this project aims to simplify the complex data from the World Happiness Report. Therefore, this project help people explore and gain insights into global happiness, ultimately leading to informed decisions that enhance well-being worldwide.
Describe the data used or collected.
They have collected the dataset from the World happiness report website which is published annually by United Nations. It spans around 149 to 158 countries starting from the years 2015 to 2023. They initially collected individual reports for each year and then merged it into a single dataset having 1368 rows and 11 columns.
Describe how the research question will be answered, e.g. what approaches / methods will be used.
Overall, the team aims to answer their questions by creating a Shiny app that has functions that answer these questions. Users will be able to select years and countries that explore the impact of different factors: economy, family, health, trust, and generosity. They plan to create a grouped bar chart to visualize the different factors that comprise happiness. In order to answer the 2nd question, the team will create variables to indicate pandemic time: pre-pandemic, during-pandemic, and post-pandemic. To visualize trends, the team plans to develop line graphs to show happiness scores across various years with a distinct pandemic period where users can zoom in and out of that particular period. Additionally, heat maps, scatter plots, and box plots will be utilized to compare happiness across the factor variables. The Shiny app will feature interactive elements such as sliders and drop-downs.
Is there anything that is unclear from the proposal?
We found all aspects of the proposal upto the mark
Provide constructive feedback on how the team might be able to improve their project.
It would be nice to add other events besides Covid (e.g. Olympic, World Cup)
What aspect of this project are you most interested in and would like to see highlighted in the presentation.
We wanted to see how the happiness score was during and after the covid period and to see how USA was ranked based on happiness, did it change over time or not? We are really interested to see what factors impact the happiness score in each country.
Provide constructive feedback on any issues with file and/or code organization.
The team could have also included the inline code in the quarto website as well and not just in the code file.
Try and exclude the folders presentation_files/figure-revealjs from the reposiroty's main working directory
Try and include an about to the github repository and the deployed link (this is just for the final presentation, not just the proposal)
(Optional) Any further comments or feedback?
Best wishes from team Chart Champions
