OW Mobile: Event Time displayed is local, but date is UT? #3

Closed TedSwift closed 4 years ago

TedSwift commented 4 years ago

I'm using the latest version(?) of OW Mobile in Android. I've noticed a couple of time-related anomalies. (1) My Events are showing up with the correct hour and minute set to Local Time, but the dates are appearing as their UT equivalents. For example, 1125 China (IOTA feed) is due at 2020 Jan 05 06:05:35 UT. In the Summary or Detail display for China, it appears to be occurring on 05 Jan 22:05:35 PST. Correct local time, but NEXT DAY. This seems to be consistent with the other My Event items. Swiping down to update does not appear to change these. Is anyone else seeing this?

(2) On 31 Dec PDT I observed (627) Charis. I noticed that the "in NN hours" display would not update unless I exited OW Mobile and re-launched. This might cause an inattentive observer to miss an event time. -Ted Swift

Hi Ted,

Can you confirm which version you are using. You can see it at the bottom of the Settings screen.

I'm not seeing any version information at the bottom of the Settings, Account, or My Events screen. In the Settings screen, I only see the four on/off switches for Temperature (set to degF), Azimuth (Degrees), Summary Event Time (Local), and Detail Event Time (Local). Does that describe an earlier version, and should I update? If so, I'm not seeing a manual way of doing so. All I can see is going back to the Google Play store and installing again. -Ted S

Hi Ted,

Yes you seem to be running an early alpha or beta version. Please uninstall it. Then go to GooglePlay and find OW Mobile again and install it. You can also use this direct link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.HristoPavlov.OWMobile

OK, just went to the Google Play store and re-downloaded OW Mobile. I'm now seeing version 1.0.25, which has a different icon, many more Settings, etc. Among the "etc.", the Local Time and Date now look correct. In summary, "Sorry to bother you". I think my remaining question is does OW Mobile update itself, does Google Play send notices, or do we need to update manually?

hpavlov commented 4 years ago

GooglePlay will notice when there is an update for the publicly released version and will let you know.

However if there is an update OW Mobile will also check at start up and will notify you / send you to GooglePlay so you can update to the latest if your version is not the latest.

The only affected version which is not automatically update was the initial alpha and I assume you had that version installed.

Yes, I had the alpha version, which didn’t know about updating. The newest version works “perfectly” as far as I’ve found so far. I must have overlooked the detail that the alpha version didn’t self-update. It’s all clear in hindsight.

I’ve already had multiple opportunities to use OW Mobile- especially in situations where I want to check something and am away from my “other computer” (my laptop). Thank you! -Ted S
