Save user searches #10223

Overview of the Feature Request As a researcher, I want to be able to save my searches in order to identify the new results for my search. Ideally this would be twofold :

What kind of user is the feature intended for? Researchers looking for a specific type of data. Research management personnel looking to identify specific trends or research topics.

Any brand new behavior do you want to add to Dataverse? (mockups coming soon) Allow users doing a search on the UI to save it. Add a new section in the Account page to list these saved searches, clicking a search I can launch that search again. Identify regularly (tbd if the regularity should be customizable by the users) new results for the searches Notify users if there are new results for their searches Allow users to disable notifications for such saved searches

Note : maybe this should directly go to the SPA issues, but I created it here so that it may be used for the technical prerequisites before UI implementation.

This reminds me vaguely of this idea of letting users star/favorite/bookmark datasets:

In general, there's not a lot of data saved at the user level. No stars, etc. No profile pic or bio. No profile page, even.

A workaround would be to create a saved search that's defined at a collection but this functionality is superuser-only: https://guides.dataverse.org/en/6.1/user/find-use-data.html#saved-search

Anyway, if we do want this functionality, I do like the idea of creating all the backend infrastructure first before working on a UI.

Oh and because we already have the term "saved search" we should be careful about what to call this feature, if we build it, to avoid confusion!

What do you think of "My Searches", it echoes "My Data" and is quite distinct from saved searches

Sure, "My Searches" is a better working title anyway. 😄
