Additionally, does/should this apply to commercial experiments?
I think there is also overlap here with a question regarding file formats that emerged recently with the reduction software at ISIS. A new file format for one of the techniques, the ORSO format mandates a section that contains information about the owner.
One idea to implement this is to add the metadata to the raw data and carry it through. Some questions arise from this:
We don’t currently pull the experiment title out of the proposal system for use on the instrument, our RB chooser interface just shows user names, RB number and experiment date as we thought listing the experiment proposal titles too might be sharing too much data between users. We could get (but not display) the experiment title and add it to the data file, but could you confirm that this would be in line with any isis data policy – I know some users write obscure titles to disguise what they are doing, if we were to populate files with the experiment title I would just want it confirmed that this was all OK to do.
- Does 3.4.3
cover this already for anything we indicate as being public?
Section 3.4.3 refers to some metadata elements being public, as clarified in the proposals system:
"3.4.3 During the proposals process, some elements of the metadata associated with an experiment (such as the title) are indicated as being public"
It would be good if the policy included more details about those elements, and perhaps a link to where all the elements are listed.
