'data product specification' definition needs review ISO 19131 #424

Open i2vana opened 2 years ago

i2vana commented 2 years ago

During ISO/CD 19157-1 ballot we received a following comment on a definition of 'data product specification' adopted from ISO/FDIS 19131

"Accepting that this definition originates from another source standard, there are still some problems with the definition. When reading the definition, the definition starts with the term the definition should define. This means that the definition of “data product specification” starts in the following manner: “specification of a data product”. So the definition are almost self-referencing."

Submitting here to pickup when ISO 19131 will next be reviewed.

ISO/FDIS 19131 was produced by WG9 and has been pending with ISO for over a year. It still includes the definition worded this way.

The "reorganisation" suggested over a year ago included moving it to WG1.

thank you @i2vana for also picking up on this problem; TMG identified these issues and reported about them at the 52nd plenary; the comments have only been added to the standards tracker now (sorry about that); please see #425 for complete background and TMG comments on other terminology issues in ISO/PRF 19131:202x

@i2vana TMG has submitted comments for 19131 during the FDIS2 ballot; please see the updated status to #425. the decision taken by TMG during FDIS2 will likely have a minor impact on terminology in19157-1. TMG will watch for this when the time comes to review 19157-1 during FDIS.
