Definition of the term application #471

The way the term application is defined in ISO 19101-1 might be a little narrow. It can be understood in a way that only describes a process. In many cases an application can also be some software. If an application is some software, then I am not sure it is covered be the definition.

The definition is used in other standards e.g. ISO 19103 (the version in revision process).

@JanHjelmager thank you for the message... i agree, something almost seems missing from the def... like "tool for"... i am not sure, i will check into this before the 19173 meeting and see if anything shows up.

the entry in question is:

application manipulation and processing of data in support of user requirements [SOURCE: [ISO 19101-1:2014, 4.1.1]

if 19103 Rev is not recommending a change, could you recommend a replacement, possibly from the OBP? we can discuss more.

@ReesePlews I have looked into OBP and could not find any suitable replacement for the present definition. They where either in line with the present defintion or very focused on software application.
