As requested in the plenary I am adding the following to the Standards Tracker.
The standard ISO 19106 Profiles was adopted in 2004. This standard was last reviewed and confirmed in 2018. Therefore this version remains current. However it is a very old standard and needs a revision.
The PMG recommended a revision, but it was postponed until ISO TR 10000 was revised. ISO 10000 is "Information technology — Framework and taxonomy of International Standardized Profiles — Part 1: General principles and documentation framework." It is also a very old document from 1998 and the revision we were waiting for occurred in 2013.
ISO 19106 was a project of TC211 Working Group 5 (which has now been closed). The project should be assigned to the new Working Group 1 because it is one of the TC211 fundamental standards.
ISO 19106 is very well referenced and well used standard, and it is very simple. Essentially it describes the subset (Type 1 profile) or subtyping (Type 2 profile) of standards or combinations of standards.
What is needed is a review of this standard to align with the "newer" ISO 10000, and to align with and support the current TC211 standards. A project leader and a NWIP for a revision is needed.
