After a few characters drop and one entered the game the NetworkID for it was
incorrect for the other clients. The server worked correctly to display the
character moving.

This is happening to me and my roommate without anyone else joining the game,
and its via LAN.

What can we do? Port is forwarded, everything seems to be right.

We are using custom classes, but we both have the same ones, is this an issue?

If I get free time to work on this I will take a look to see if it can be
easily fixed. If you are sharing the same mods that should not be the cause of
this. It is how the server manages which client controls which character and
handling initialization and cleanup properly when joining and leaving (and
timing out).
For now you might want to simply restart both games.
