no reset possible #1

Unfortunately, the plugin is a one-way street: the reset button does not appear. I would advise against installing it for the time being.

girgink commented 3 days ago

Can you please clarify what you mean with reset button does not appear? The plugin gets activated only if you click the button added to the project toolbar indicated with a plain QGIS logo, or selecting Toggle QGIS Light item under the view menu. Once it is activated, you can revert back to the standard interface by clicking colored QGIS tool button located at the end of the main toolbar. Screenshots are available in the readme document.

Hello,

you wrote: "Once it is activated, you can revert back to the standard interface by clicking colored QGIS tool button located at the end of the main toolbar". Exactly this exit button (as shown in /qgis-light-enabled.png/ at the right margin) did not appear anywhere in the toolbar or in the menus. So I could not restore the previous standard interface. (Iam trying now to repair my QGis installation.) I use Qgis 3.38.3 and Windows 10.

Best wishes detmet

Can you please send a screenshot? Also log messages will help to identify the issue, you can access them by clicking the messages icon at the right bottom corner.

You can uninstall the plugin manually by deleting the qgis-light folder under your QGIS profile directory. In my case, it is located under C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\QGIS\QGIS3\profiles\Default\python\plugins\.

No, unfortunately I didn't take a screenshot. In principle, the bar looked similar to “qgis-light-enabled.png”, but the button furthest to the right was the one with the chessboard pattern. No other buttons appeared to the right of it, although there was still plenty of space. Yes, I deleted the QGis_Light folder to uninstall the plugin. (I had previously checked the remaining menus to see if I have access to the plugin list there. But I couldn't find the site, otherwise I would have uninstalled it there). After I had removed the plugin by deleting it, I restarted Qgis and the old interface was back. However, the fonts in the menus were now very small - that's why I used the repair function of QGis. But that was superfluous because I can set the font size of the menus under General - Options (as I realized to late). But now I have to reopen all the toolbars opened in the standard interface individually. Then everything will be fine again.

The log messages obviously are deleted after exiting QGis.

I like the idea of the plugin. If the error is not unique to me, I will be happy to try future versions.

The same question, @detmet I want to know how to repair QGIS? thanks.

The same question, @detmet I want to know how to repair QGIS? thanks.

If there is a problem, QGIS can be repaired by repeating the installation process with the installation file. This recognizes whether an installation already exists and then asks whether QGIS should be repaired or uninstalled. If you have a data backup of your Windows partition and only something in your QGis user profile is corrupted, it may be sufficient to replace the folder c:\Users#your_username#\AppData\Roaming\QGIS\QGIS3\profiles\ from the backup.

girgink commented 2 days ago

I added a note to the installation section of the Readme document for the use of a profile before enabling the plugin. This will enable to switch the default profile if something goes wrong.

girgink commented 2 days ago

But now I have to reopen all the toolbars opened in the standard interface individually. Then everything will be fine again. The log messages obviously are deleted after exiting QGis.

QGIS remembers the last state of toolbars and panels before exiting, and displays them accordingly next time it starts. Because the plugin hides them, they are not visible when you start QGIS normally after you delete the plugin.

Without seeing the logs it is really difficult to understand what is causing the problem. Unfortunately we cannot replicate it, but I will change when the exit button is created to make sure that it is always visible, even an error occurs. Currently it is created at the end.

girgink commented 2 days ago

@detmet, can you please send the version information available in the about dialog (Qt, Python, etc.), including active plugins?
