Title of Your Contribution Data Interoperability through Standardized Units of Measurement

Describe Your Contribution This "technique' promotes the use of an Excel spreadsheet that has been populated with chemistry units of measurement based on the guidelines from the IUPAC Green Book, 3rd edition. The premise is that the spreadsheet can be used as a controlled vocabulary for units (and prefixes) allowing unambiguous reporting of the units.

Type of Contribution Technique

Have You Tested This? The Excel spreadsheet has an 'Example' tab where the lists of units and prefixes have been used to validate data in cells in this tab.

Acknowledgments This contribution and the development of the spreadsheet was inspired by my participation the CODATA Working Group on the Digital Representation of Units of Measurement (DRUM) and my participation in the IUPAC Project on the 5th edition of the Green Book.
