Wrinkler popping #84

1) While collecting Hallowe'en cookies, currently you pop all wrinklers as soon as they appear. Might it be better to allow 9 wrinklers to start feeding, and then keep popping the tenth wrinkler when it appears? Yes, you slow the rate at which you find the cookies, but you get ~5x cookie generation from having 9 wrinklers up.

2) Could we get a "pop wrinklers 1/day" or similar option to guard against the chance of losing them on a browser crash? Obviously the best time to pop them would be right at the start of a Clot.

The first option would probably be detrimental for people autoclicking Golden Cookies, as the CpS you get from 9 W rinklers doesn't come close to that, so it's beneficial to go back to Golden Cookies asap. However, I didn't math it out properly, so I'm not sure.

pjie2 commented 10 years ago

If you're autoclicking, my understanding is that it's significantly better to stay at stage 1 of Grandmapocalypse, where you still have 66% Golden Cookies, but also the passive 6x boost from having wrinklers up. I also tested this directly by allowing the same save to run overnight in two different browsers - one with all Golden cookies, one in stage 1 Grandmapocalypse - and the latter won very convincingly. It's possible the second save just got luckier on click frenzies, reindeer timing and suchlike, but other people have mathed it out and say that Grandmapocalypse + Golden cookies is the way to go.

z16 commented 10 years ago

Do you have the link to that math? Because I find that extremely hard to believe. I haven't calculated it myself, but 6x CpS is nothing compared to the GC boost, and you would almost lose that entirely by being on stage 1 of the Grandmapocalypse.

pjie2 commented 10 years ago

Why would you lose it entirely? 2/3 of your cookies are still Golden.

The "big hitter" effect of Golden cookies in endgame is the chance for a Frenzy/Lucky combo or a Frenzy / click Frenzy combo. Overall, you'll only get 2/3 as many Frenzies if you're in stage 1 of Grandmapocalypse , and only 2/3 as many of them will hit Lucky or Click Frenzy on the second cookie, so the overall chance for each beneficial combo is 4/9 = just under half. The 6x effect of the wrinklers more than compensates.

Test it yourself if you want. Take a save file with a bunch of HCs, restart it in two different browsers with one set on Grandmapocalypse mode and let it run for a couple of days.

The other thing to do is when a red cookie pops up, wait a while for a reindeer to appear before clicking it. Elder Frenzy x reindeer is huge returns.

Also worth remembering is that Ruin cookies are irrelevant in endgame when you're farming HCs, because they only affect your current cookies, not your all-time.

pjie2 commented 10 years ago

Further test: I reset 35 hrs ago with 28985 HCs. Left it on Grandmapocalypse mode initially, to collect the spooky cookies. Once I had all of them, I exported the save to a second browser and allowed it to complete all research and go to full golden cookie mode.

The results aren't even close. As I speak, the one that's running on 100% golden cookies is at 30857 HCs for the next reset, a total income of 52.97 HC/hr. The one that's running in stage 1 of the Grandmapocalpyse is at 31459 HCs, for a total income of 70 HC/hr.

Conclusion: in the endgame at least, running in stage 1 of the Grandmapocalypse (66% golden cookies, 33% wrath cookies, 10 wrinklers up) is about 40% more efficient than completing all research and using the Elder Pledge.

Could you look into this with the newest update and let me know if the behaviour should change? The wrinkler autoclicking behaviour hasn't been changed, but if you turn that off, you'll see FC try to stay in the grandmapocalypse a lot more (and specifically, staying in wrath=1 for quite a long time).

For now, I'm leaving this open to collect more suggestions for updating how, if at all, wrinkler handling should be changed.

Pichu0102 commented 10 years ago

When does FC pop wrinklers anyways? I've never seen it do so.

mrbellek commented 10 years ago

Either immediately (to get Halloween cookies) or right after a purchase. It's in the settings.

Icehawk78 commented 10 years ago

Not actually quite right, the message in the settings should probably be changed.

@Pichu0102 - FC actually very rarely pops wrinklers, because it's almost always less efficient for you to do so. It'll pop wrinklers if you're in Halloween and don't have all Halloween cookies, or it'll pop wrinklers if there's enough for you to immediately buy something new, but only if that purchase provides a larger boost than would be lost by not having the wrinklers lost from popping (which is exceedingly rare - most likely only one of the Kittens or something like Glow in the Dark, if even those.

However, FC will pop wrinklers just before a reset, since that's when it's actually optimal to pop them.

Given that wrinklers no longer are lost upon save/reload, I'm closing this.
