Safely catch errors on shutdown #407

Expected Behavior

When shutting down, errors may occur. Example: disconnect from DB fails. Such errors should be caught, logged, shutdown should continue.

NB: AFAIK this didn't cause any problems, but such errors have not been logged. This made it hard to troubleshoot unclean shutdowns
