Hmm, well I see why this might happen. The search is performed recursively, so if you indicate a folder that is "deep", the interface will indeed freeze as long as it takes to browse through the entire hierarchy. What I'll do though is to thread this, while displaying a "loading plugins..." message somewhere on the GUI.

While clicking the "Browse for ImageJ plugins..." it is unclear if the user has to select a .jar file or a folder (and expect for the plugins to be auto-detected). If the user tries the latter option Icy will freeze, a solution will be to force the user to select a .jar file and nothing else.
