I am unable to reproduce this in 0.8.6 on Debian sid, but the way folders are opened on the desktop changed in 0.8.7, so first please test with that version. Be sure to 'killall spacefm' after upgrading to be sure you are running the new version. If that doesn't address the problem, please do/answer the following:
1) Are you using SpaceFM to manage your desktop (spacefm --desktop), or another desktop manager?
2) In a terminal window, please run:
killall spacefm
spacefm --version # show me the full output of this
spacefm --desktop
Leave that terminal window open, and double-click on a folder on the desktop. Then check back in the terminal for any messages or warnings and include them here - thanks.

Dear iGURU,
I upgraded my udevil and spacefm to 0.4.1 and 0.8.7 respectively. I installed these through all_deb packages. But the problem persists. I am using spacefm as the Desktop manager. I am enclosing a screenshot of the required info.
when I open spacefm with --desktop option it claims that the root editor was not selected. Actually that preference is already there. You can see the preferences window. Also this program is not creating /etc/spacefm folder or file.
Nothing is reported in the terminal when I open a folder on the desktop. From the attacted image you can see that I opened a folder "Tabletpurchase" and it went to my user home "Oldraja"
with best regards

Dear iGuru,
This is further to my mail sent a while ago.
The spacefm panels are working fine. I can open the Tabletpurchase folder here. So the problems seems to be only in the Desktop opening the new window with dynamic url.

Thanks for the info (I didn't receive the screenshot but shouldn't need that - you can't add email attachments to github issues, but you can paste a link). I just tested 0.8.7 on Debian squeeze and cannot reproduce any problem opening folders or links to folders from the desktop. No other reports of this so there must be something different in your system or SpaceFM setup which is triggering this.
You say the problem began when you upgraded from 0.8.5 to 0.8.6, yet I see no changes there that affected how folders on the desktop where opened:
Summary of recent changes affecting opening folders on desktop 0.8.3 No changes 0.8.4 No changes 0.8.5 Open folder in current tab & Always present window (main.c) 0.8.6 No changes 0.8.7 Reuse last window only if on current desktop
Changes in 0.8.5 seem the likeliest candidate, but I see nothing that should cause the behavior you describe, and you said 0.8.5 did not exhibit the problem.
In terms of narrowing this down, it's important to know which version of SpaceFM introduced this problem - or perhaps it was some other change on your system which triggered it. You can find older versions of SpaceFM here. Just uninstall spacefm and then install the desired deb file. Be sure to run 'killall spacefm' before testing.
Answering the following quick questions might help narrow down the problem:
1) Is the folder on the desktop that you are opening a link to a folder, or an actual folder in ~/Desktop, and does it matter?
2) Does the folder have non-ASCII characters in the filename or other unusual characteristics (eg do you have permission to read it)?
3) Does the problem occur if you right-click on desktop, select New|Folder, and click the '& Open' button?
4) Does the problem occur if there is already a SpaceFM file manager window open on the current desktop?
5) Does the problem occur if there is already a SpaceFM file manager window open on the current desktop, and you run in a terminal:
spacefm -r /etc
6) Does the problem occur if there is already a SpaceFM file manager window open on the current desktop, and you run in a terminal:
spacefm /etc
7) Does the problem occur if no SpaceFM file manager windows are open on any desktop?
8) Does the problem occur if no SpaceFM file manager windows are open on any desktop, and you run in a terminal:
spacefm -r /etc
9) Does the problem occur if no SpaceFM file manager windows are open on any desktop, and you run in a terminal:
spacefm /etc
10) It shouldn't matter for this, but for the record, what window manager are you using with SpaceFM Desktop?
If anyone else experiences this problem, please drop a 'me too' here with your info.
Also: 11) Does option File|Save Tabs have any effect on this problem?
Closing this due to inactivity and not reproducible. Feel free to add additional comments below and this issue can be reopened if needed - thanks.
I installed the deb package of 0.8.6 on Debian Squeeze. This version corrected the problem of inability to create a new folder of 0.8.5 but introduced a new problem. If I click on any folder icon on the Desktop, spacefm opens only user's home Directory.
Please correct this problem.
