possible forge support? #28

SKIP PARAGRAPH FOR CONTENT/MATTER I really loved reading what your mod does. Despite being part of the Minecraft community for 8 years I never got to see an enchantment mod that works like what you created. I was so amazed by concept and little quirks that balanced it all that I literally read through the readme with my mouth open. It is a really great mod and I thank you for creating this peace of art. Simply: well done! Sadly there is a personal problem: I use forge and, due to lack of fabric support for a large number of the mods I use, I will probably stick with it for quite a while. This leads to the following:

Hello MineMaGor! Thanks for the support and the suggestions. It's comments like yours that encourage me to fix, improve, add content and, in general, continue development of the mod <3

To be honest, this mod was just a test-the-ground mod to make me understand the work behind publishing and maintaining a Minecraft mod (that is because I have had a mod in development for many years which is way, WAY, better than this but I don't feel like it is ready yet... maybe one day). Despite this, I wanted to make something unique and fun to use.

I started modding using Forge, I think 6/7 years ago and switched to Fabric for two reasons: mixins and ease of update. Differently from Forge, Fabric lets you inject code directly where you want and it is what made the "uniqueness" of this mod possible. I don't know if porting this mod to Forge is possible but surely not easy. Being a solo developer it is difficult to maintain so many versions (I currently have 5 just for Fabric which I have to update manually every time). Because of these reasons, I don't think I will ever port this mod to Forge.

I don't have anything to say if you want to try to do it privately... but I'm very jealous about the things I make and I don't want you to publish it (you can use it privately ofc). Said that, if you still want to try to port and manage to obtain some results, we can try to collaborate on a Forge port and I might decide to publish it (with your approval this time). But I am not sure about this last sentence, I will decide in case we get there ;)

Hello Muso! (is that what... you want to be called? an appropriate interpretation of your name? I dunno how to formulate that question, but I think you get the point) I am glad to be able to encourage you and surprised by the switch to fabric. I have 0 experience with fabric and in general not much experience in modding. Like I do know more then a vanilla player, maybe more then the general 'imma get forge and this botania' person, but no real experience that would be useful compared to your knowledge. So as proud as that might make me, I do not think that "working on it together" would be of any use at all, as you would basically do everything. And I suspected that those unique things would be a fabric only thing, but the hope was there. I never meant to publish the port version as mine, I was thinking about somehow adding it to your mod page, with a disclaimer, just so that others who wish to use your mod, but on forge could maybe do that. So as sad as it is, it looks like there is no realistic chance for a port. I will now have to make the tough call to either change to fabric and try to find my 30 mods (or a replacement) for fabric, use a mod that kind of supports forge -> fabric or leave your mod out of it... btw I'm trying to make a nice modpack revolving around botania, TC, immersive Engineering / thermal... and some changes in enchanting health/fighting for private server ~15 players. Your mod would be perfect for this, as it would change PvP and its limits quite a bit. Oh and while I'm at it, could you add values for damage taken for phasing, guillotining, I think the numbers for Meteority are wrong too (maybe I don't get it), the zero gravity applies to a hoe item? Just a few things I noticed in the ReadMe tho. If you have any additional ideas for me, for the mod (for example get an opinion on a concept) or if there is anything I could help with, I'd gladly receive any of that. PS: I'd love to know more about that unpublished mod of yours, but if you want to keep that private, just do so for a long as you want, that's fine.

You can call me Musu :D I fixed the typos and added info in the readme. I understand the doubts about forge vs fabric. At the beginning, I was a forge fanboy since it was what I started with, and didn't understand the reasons behind another modloader. Then I tried it and it was much simpler to use (maybe things will change once again with neoforged now). The only problem with fabric is mods compatibility and too poor choice for complex mods (or at least, with respect to forge) About the other project, I can show it to you... maybe on discord? I would like to have some feedback on it, maybe it will make me decide to complete the project

For me that compatibility was always very important, I love combining mods, finding ones that work better together, but usually they are all compatible. We could do that on discord, but maybe not today, central Europe, its getting late. But I'd really like giving you feedback on it, but considering how much I like this mod and how you said that that one is way better... im trying not to expect too much, but that is kinda hard.
