Try latest version of SE - I think it can download new Tesseract dictionaries
from inside the ocr window.
Also, SE installer version uses this folder :
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Subtitle Edit\Tesseract\tessdata

Thanks
The downloaded does not work, it just reports that it is unable to connect
to the openoffice site. The same is true with the spell checking so it
appears that the link in the program is incorrect. I manually searched the
Internet and located the open office files on a Debian repository and
downloaded them myself and put then in the necessary directories, the 'open
dictionary folder' button showed me where to place them. Everything is now
working
