Download Seen as Potentially Problematic by Mac #247

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Download Soundflower-1.6.6b.dmg on Mac OS X 10.9
2. Double-click the file
3. Double-click the Soundflower-1.6.6 thin white icon box thing
4. Double-click the .pkg file

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: Continuing through the download/install process
Actual: A dialog appears saying the download may be dangerous or some such.

I worked around this by right-clicking and selecting open, but this is
something the developers/keepers should know about.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Don't have it yet.

Please provide any additional information below.

Hi,
If you are having issues installing Soundflower because Mac OS X prohibits you
to do so, you may want to disable a new feature from Mavericks which is
restrictions for installing apps that are not downloaded directly from the App
Store.

I've attached a screenshot. In System Preferences / Security & Privacy /
General / Allow apps downloaded from: "Anywhere" (you may need admin password
for this).

You may be having an "expired certificate" warning upon installation, I believe
it is because Soundflower hasn't been updated in quite a long time (over a
year). Just hit Continue and should be fine.

I hope this works and allows you to install it; it worked for me in OS 10.9 &
10.8

Like I said I found a workaround.

I just thought the developers should know. It's a barrier for their users.

This issue needs to be addressed to maintain the security of systems
downloading the software and trust of the developers.
