Maybe the rebuilding caused some other issues unrelated to LTO, but you could always try to rebuild all of systemd's dependencies without the flags as well, see if it fixes something (emerge -e systemd should do it albeit it'll rebuild a fair amount of hardly related things).

I don't really know much about systemd (other than having it on a old debian server), did you change anything on the kernel too? Hopefully someone else knows better.

I've 2 machines with systemd using this overlay that are working fine.

Fixed adding -Wa,--noexecstack to cflags and recompiling openssl the flag o matic override useflag make override it from openssl ebuild causing it making stack exec libs that systemd dont wanted to Read . Thanks this can be closed .

InBetweenNames commented 5 years ago

@javashin thank you so much for reporting this, you just saved me a lot of work!

How on earth did you figure out it was execstack causing the problem?

javashin commented 5 years ago

Uff was long time ago well i loorked every where and i edited the ebuild and i found that the ebuild append some flags that flag-omatic override i was crazy that day and i found the solution append-flags -fno-strict-aliasing append-flags $(test-flags-CC -Wa,--noexecstack) append-cppflags -DOPENSSL_NO_BUF_FREELISTS

i also looked in archlinux PKGBUILD

https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/tree/trunk/PKGBUILD?h=packages/openssl

as reference like always :)

also this help me too https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Hardened/GNU_stack_quickstart

InBetweenNames commented 5 years ago

Well I'm super thankful for it. Despite not having selinux or other things like such installed, it still seemed to happen on my system with systemd. Now that it's fixed, I can get around to validating GNOME :)

Cool Glad I Helped here . this overlay is great , is now a community growing every day , im thankful too to be here :)
