Data exchange is working from Indicia warehouse to warehouse (used for ERCCIS Orks 2). Need another implementation to be available to complete the round trip testing against (BTO or BSBI).
I hope to join in once I have some more time as this is very important for further development of any mobile apps linked to the system.
This relates to few issues with the iRecord App: NERC-CEH/irecord-app#55 NERC-CEH/irecord-app#18 NERC-CEH/irecord-app#42
Waiting for BTO to correct a date handling error before setting up a round trip test.
Not sure if this is the right place to record this, but a particular issue has arisen over bird taxonomy that has a small implication for linking to Birdtrack.
The recommended scientific name "Columba livia" is used for both Rock Dove and Feral Pigeon in the UK. Opinion seems to be that Rock Doves and Feral Pigeons are so interbred in the UK that they cannot be treated as separate species or subspecies, so the NBN maps them as one taxon using the recommended scientific name. However, Birdtrack does split them out (apparently at the moment the BTO use a strange rank for Feral Pigeon called "Subspecies (non-standard)" because it isn't a subspecies but nobody knows what it is - pers. comm. from Chris Raper and Andy Musgrove).
Records added to iRecord can be entered as either Rock Dove or Feral Pigeon, but both lead to a single recommended name of Columba livia.
We may need to find a way of splitting the records based on name entered by the original recorder if Birdtrack needs to retain the distinction.
This isn't a big problem technically, because although both names map to Columba livia, we still store the original key for the name as it was entered, so we know if the recorder used Rock Dove or Feral Pigeon. At the moment the sync code does transfer the preferred TVK but that could easily be changed.
Ideally complete by end of March 2016
