Currently, the colors assigned to countries/regions on geographical maps (and to alerts in the event table) are relative to the min-max severity-score values in the user-selected time range, which can be misleading. E.g., in a time interval with no severe alerts, (many) alerts of small significance might be colored in red. We will transition to an absolute scale for our color gradient/map, or establish 3 separate scales (low, mid, high) for three color gradients. To identify meaningful reference values (or thresholds) for our absolute scale(s) we will perform an analysis of the scores and alerts for a list we are curating of significant outages (we) that IODA has detected over the last 3 years (1500+ events).
