personalDNSfilter together with Netguard

I've been using personalDNSfilter together with Netguard for quite some time successfully on a Moto X4 and a Galaxy Tab S6 lite. However, on a Xperia Z3 I am running into trouble. My settings in Netguard are:

• Port forwarding UDP 53 127.0.0.1 5300 nobody
• Port forwarding TCP 53 127.0.0.1 5300 nobody
• VNP DNS 127.0.0.1

and in personalDNSfilter I activated:

• CNAME cloaking protection
• DNS proxy mode without local VPN
• Allow only local DNS proxy requests.

On the Z3, internet access is blocked with this combination, and I get the following error message:

java.net.SocketTimeoutException IO Error occured! Check network or DNS config!

Then personalDNSfilter tries to connect to Selected DNS over and over again and internet access is blocked. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Can you try again with...

• Apply rules checkbox for pDNSF isn't checked
• Choose pDNSF apps for forwarded port instead of nobody
• Use other IP address for VPN DNS (aka. other legitimate UDP providers)

• Don't set VPN DNS (there is nothing listening on lo:53. without DNS set on VPN interface , port redirect works just fine.)
• Don't use 127.0.0.1 (which oddly seldom works for me) try NG's VPN interface address. And this shall be closed 😄.
