Exercise JSON logging #425

We had an issue #423 where JSON logging was completely broken, and this was not detected. Add a simple exercise of the JSON logging type (including exporting restructureJsonLog for access)

@abukharov feeling a little uncomfortable about making stuff in logger.ts public in order to enable testing (and the slightly grotty way in which I substitute the output function). Any better ideas?

PS: this test (correctly) fails when #424 is reverted.
