The subtasks (so far) are

[ ] Comments for procedures in code
[ ] Javadoc documentation for classes and methods
[ ] Revise and extend log statements
[x] Re-organize the package structure
[ ] Take care of the scopes so that nothing that doesn't need to be public isn't

In addition, I will try to make the existing log statements more meaningful and add some more at important places...

Since this is a permanent task and this issue hasn't been updated for a while, I'm closing this. But I'll try to keep it in mind...
