Saving Problem on Windows 10 #1174

Open HilfMir123 opened 5 years ago

As said in the title, I can't save. I have tried using the other versions of the games (32bit and Java), but to no avail. So, what could be wrong?

A couple questions, first: Where are you putting Lilith's Throne? Is your user account an Administrator account?

Nowadays, it is strongly recommended to install games (including LT) outside of UAC protected folders, such as the notorious "Program Files", because they have protective measures that prevent certain files from being created without the Admin permission (even when you're the Admin...). This includes save files.

Also, if you're using Windows Defender with Ransomware Protection on, it will "lock down" essential Windows folders and those likely to contain sensitive information, such as images, music, documents, etc, from being tweaked. This happened to me before and it took me a while to learn the source of the problem. A lot of videogames these days store their save files either in the Documents folder or deep in the system (AppData) so I had to turn Ransomware Protection off.

In other words, when installing games in general (this includes LT) make sure the output folder isn't a protected one and that your Anti-Virus isn't messing things up.

  1. I'm putting it on the Desktop.
  2. It is.

Tried with seeting it (AV) on passive, still doesn't work.

First thing to check, beyond the manual placement of the res folder: Did opening the game the first time create a data folder? If not, what happens when you create a data folder (explicitly a folder named data) on your desktop?

I put all my games in X:\Games and C:\Games, I would recommend everyone do so, and on said folder set antivirus exclusion on it, and scan manually on any new game installations that aren't from Steam/Epic/etc. As well set the Ownership of said folder to yourself, therefore all games I run from said folder are running in there with full perms. You can do so by R-Click > Properties > Security > Advanced > (top says Owner x [Change] ) > click change > in box put your name or email (if you login with microsoft account to windows) > Check Names (should auto link it) > Ok > Check Box saying Sub containers > Apply/Ok

Try that yourself. (Ownership may not be needed but a nice touch) All reputable launchers allow setting a dedicated global games install folder. Also no programs are allowed to create items on desktop. Always put in sub folder.

Edit: Github did a strange thing saying "Can't post at this time" then suddenly sent 5~. Sorry for the spam to emails and you guys.

I followed DrZed's instructions to the letter as best I could but I'm still getting the 'Partial Save Fail: XML writing failure' which I assume is the 'Saving Problem' this thread is all about.| I tried 'Excluding' the folder the game's in but that didn't work either. What's most bothersome is that I've played the game plenty and this has never been a problem until now.
