Makefile for compiling the extension on Linux #5

There have been quite some requests asking for a Linux version of the extension. Can someone with a Linux machine and some Makefile experience help? The Mac OS makefile should provide some guidance.

I finally got hold of a Linux box and adopted the Mac OS makefile. It works at least on Red Hat and should work on other flavors of Linux, too.
